I don’t know about you, but when that chocolate craving hits there will be nothing that gets in its way.

Estimated time: 5 minutes

Effort/Skill: Super Easy

Ingredients & Directions

2 frozen bananas

2 medjool dates (pitted)

¼ cup chocolate chips

1 tsp cinnamon

1 cup almond milk

Toss ingredients in the blender and make sure you have a lid on it or you’ll have a cinnamon explosion. Blend well until smooth.

If you’re like me, you might want to cut back on the almond milk and make this thicker for spooning from a bowl.

NOURISHED FACT

Why adding cinnamon is a must

NOURISHED FACT

Why adding cinnamon is a must

Cinnamon is great for your liver. Now, that doesn’t mean you should crack open that fire water or cinnamon Schnapps.

And here’s why (besides the simulated cinnamon, alcohol and sugar). There’s a few things you should know about cinnamon.

Cinnamon commonly comes in two forms:

  • Cassia (Chinese cinnamon)

  • Ceylon (Sri Lankan cinnamon)

While there are various other cinnamon varieties in the botanical world, the two most common are Cassia and Ceylon.

Ceylon is commonly the more expensive of the two and not as accessible in the grocery aisles.

If you have a look in your pantry/spice drawer, you’re likely to find the cheaper Cassia, which contains coumarin, a compound that when in higher doses can actually cause liver damage or even cancer, according to some studies. So, if you choose to go overboard with this cinnamon, get the good kind or keep it to under a teaspoon a day. (1)

There is evidence to cinnamon’s health benefits, thanks to various studies:

  • It’s loaded with antioxidants (read more here) (2)

  • Antifungal properties (3)

  • Anti-inflammatory (4)

  • May reduce risk of heart disease (5)

  • Lowering blood sugar levels and anti-diabetic effects (6)

Lastly, cinnamon’s power-packed heat and ability to taste sweet make it not only healthy, but delicious.
