Battling Burnout

It was burnout that got me here. That’s right. It’s stress that brings me back to my holistic nutrition journey, the career shift, my homecoming and how a health journey changed my life.

For me, over two decades of a stressful career, in an industry I’d never intended to work in, made me question just about everything in life. It seemed crazy that my gut, digestion and ultimately my skin was what would bring about my awareness.

One wild and crazy day, I felt a gush of terror flow into my brain. It was more than the anxiety I had become accustomed to in life. This terrifying feeling felt like I was having a stroke or something. I froze. I literally was lying down trying to do my job. I couldn't stay awake and I was sure that I was going to die.

This was something completely new to me. It was panic and fear. My adrenal glands were now in flight mode. Major flight mode.

The ‘lightbulb’ moment

It didn't take much for me to figure out that I needed to pull the plug on a few things in life. I had to shift my priorities to my health, and so, the health journey began (again).

There’s a key word in that sentence: again.

Maybe I was one breath away from a stroke, panic attack or something dangerous. But it shifted me. It all changed instantly and it was more than nutrition, I was missing something really important in my nutrition - the holistic part!

The formula to health

That’s right, I shifted my focus to overhauling my life with:

🥗 nutrition

🫁 breathwork

🧘🏼 meditation

🧘🏼‍♀️ yoga

💆🏻‍♀️ myofascial release, massage or fascial yin yoga

🎨 creative flow

🌳 grounding

🧠🫃🏽mind-gut connection

🧠❤️ heart-brain connection

🏃🏽‍♀️ exercise

🛏 sleep & rest

…and last but not least:

🤔 trusting my gut

Homecoming

Many moons later, what once woke me up in panic, causing me to lose sleep, freeze me like a statue, and wreath havoc on my gut, emotions, skin and so much more. It was gone and I had my homecoming. But that homecoming is always going on. I slip, I fall. I’m not perfect. In fact, as I write this I am once again working on something. It’s a delicate balance and takes work.
